『スッタニパータ』アッタカヴァッガ（Aṭṭhakavagga）第九経で、マーガンディヤ（Māgaṇḍiya）が娘を差し出したのを仏陀が拒んだこと、そして清浄は哲学的論争からではなく内なる平安から来るという教えを記録する。

遍歴行者マーガンディヤ（Māgaṇḍiya）との仏陀の対話を記録した経で、真の健康と涅槃は他の師たちが考えるものとは異なると説く。これによりマーガンディヤは出家して阿羅漢となった。
