《中部》第五十经，讲大目犍连察觉魔罗潜入自己体内作祟，令魔罗仓皇现身，目犍连随即讲述自己前生也曾是名为杜西的魔罗，曾煽动婆罗门迫害过去佛拘留孙及其弟子，因而堕入大地狱备受极苦，藉此警告眼前的魔罗若继续侵扰圣者，也将遭受同样下场。

The fiftieth discourse of the Majjhimanikāya, in which Mahā-Moggallāna, troubled by Māra who has entered his body, confronts the discomfited tempter and recounts how he himself was once a Māra who provoked persecution against an earlier Buddha and his disciples, suffering terrible torment in hell as a result, warning the present Māra of the same fate.
