水晶洞窟に映るライオンの姿に怯える猪の群れが、泥と自分の剛毛で水晶を曇らせようと空しく試み、そこに住む苦行者が水晶は汚せないと告げるまでという本生譚で、スンダリーの死をめぐって仏陀を中傷しようとした異教徒たちの失敗した企てに関連して説かれた。

A birth story about a group of boars terrified by a lion’s reflection in their crystal cave, who try in vain to dull the crystal with mud and their own bristles until the resident ascetic tells them a crystal cannot be sullied, told in reference to heretics’ failed attempt to slander the Buddha over the death of Sundarī.
