බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේට වඩා වයසින් වැඩි කීර්තිමත් ශ්‍රාවකයෙකු වූ අතර සගයන් වූ භික්ෂූන්ට උපදෙස් දීමෙන් අග්‍ර ලෙස ප්‍රකාශ කරන ලදී. සීමාන්ත රාජ්‍යයක් වූ කුක්කුටවතී හි රජකම කරමින් සිටියදී වෙළෙන්දන් බුදුරජාණන් වහන්සේ ලෝකයට පහළ වූ බව දැනුම් දීමෙන් පසු බුදුසමයට හැරුනි.

An eminent disciple of the Buddha, older than him in age, declared foremost among those who instructed fellow monks, who as king of the frontier realm of Kukkuṭavatī was converted after merchants told him of the Buddha’s appearance in the world.
