부처님의 어머니로, 데바다하 출신의 사캬족 공주이다. 전승에 따르면 잉태되던 밤 흰 코끼리가 옆구리로 들어오는 꿈을 꾸었고, 출산 후 이레 만에 세상을 떠났다.
