誰からも憎まれた残忍な王についてのジャータカで、彼の死を民衆が喜んだが、暴君が地獄から戻り毎日の殴打を再開することを恐れて一人泣いていた彼自身の門番だけは例外だった。提婆達多（Devadatta）の死に群衆が祝った理由を説明するために説かれ、その悪しき王は提婆達多の前世であったと特定された。

A Jātaka about a cruel and universally hated king whose death is met with public rejoicing, except by his own doorkeeper, who alone weeps out of fear the tyrant might return from hell to resume his daily beatings, told to explain why crowds celebrated at Devadatta’s death, with the wicked king identified as an earlier life of Devadatta.
