一则本生故事，讲一位残暴众怨的国王死后万民欢庆，唯独他的守门人独自哭泣，因惧怕这暴君会从地狱归来继续每日的殴打，此事被用来解释民众何以在提婆达多死时同样欢腾雀跃，那位暴君即被认作提婆达多的前生。
