一則本生故事，講一位殘暴眾怨的國王死後萬民歡慶，唯獨他的守門人獨自哭泣，因懼怕這暴君會從地獄歸來繼續每日的毆打，此事被用來解釋民眾何以在提婆達多死時同樣歡騰雀躍，那位暴君即被認作提婆達多的前生。

A Jātaka about a cruel and universally hated king whose death is met with public rejoicing, except by his own doorkeeper, who alone weeps out of fear the tyrant might return from hell to resume his daily beatings, told to explain why crowds celebrated at Devadatta’s death, with the wicked king identified as an earlier life of Devadatta.
