此經是佛陀在 Kusinārā 為阿難所說：佛陀揭示這座簡陋小城的前身正是華美的王城 Kusāvatī，轉輪聖王 Mahāsudassana 曾擁有轉輪七寶，後捨棄榮華修習更高的聖道。

A discourse taught to Ānanda near Kusinārā in which the Buddha reveals that the humble town was once Kusāvatī, the splendid royal city of the great wheel-turning monarch Mahāsudassana, who possessed the seven treasures of a Cakkavatti and eventually renounced his glory to practise the higher spiritual life.
