අනුරාධපුරයේ දුටුගැමුණු රජු විසින් තැනු විශාල ස්ථූපයක් වන අතර වර්තමාන කල්පයේ බුදුවරුන් සතරදෙනාම වැඩම කර ශුද්ධ කළ ස්ථානයක් ලෙසත් අනාගතයේ ප්‍රධාන ස්මාරකයක් ඉදිවන ස්ථානය ලෙසත් මහින්ද හිමියන් අනාවැකි පළ කළ ස්ථානයකි.
