経集の蛇品第十二経で、家を持たず、争いも貪りもなく禅定に堅固な者を真の牟尼と定義する詩句集からなり、さまざまな別々の機会に与えられた教えに由来するとされる

The twelfth sutta of the Uraga Vagga of the Suttanipāta, a composite set of verses defining the true sage as one who lives homeless, free of strife and covetousness, and firm in meditation, said to have originated from teachings given on various separate occasions.
