マドゥピンディカ経を聞いて出家したカピラヴァットゥのシャーキャ家出身の阿羅漢で、パドゥムッタラ仏の時代にはナーラダという名のバラモンとして仏陀を偈で讃えたことがある人物。

An arahant of a Sakyan family in Kapilavatthu who entered the Order after hearing the Madhupiṇḍika Sutta, and who in Padumuttara Buddha’s time, as a brahmin named Nārada, had praised the Buddha in verse.

一時期仏陀の個人的な侍者で、沙弥シーハの母方の叔父にあたり、肥満気味でかなり怠惰であったと描写され、多くの仕事をシーハにやらせていた人物。

The Buddha’s personal attendant for a time, maternal uncle of the novice Sīha, described as portly and rather indolent, who left much of his work to be done by Sīha.
