උපතේ සිටම බැතියෙන් යාග ගින්න රැක ගත් බ්‍රාහ්මණයෙකු, ඔහු නොසිටින විට ඔහු පූජාවක් ලෙස තැබූ ගවයා සොරුන් ගිල දැමූ පසු ලැජ්ජාවෙන් එය අත්හළ ආකාරය කියන ජාතක කථාවකි, ගිනි දෙවියාට ඔහුගේම තෑග්ග ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීමටවත් නොහැකි විය බව වටහාගනිමින්; තපස්විදයෙක් අපහසු තපසින් ගුණ ලබා ගන්නවාදැයි යන ප්‍රශ්නයට සම්බන්ධව මෙය කියන ලදී.

A Jātaka in which a brahmin who has devoutly tended a sacrificial fire since birth abandons it in disgust after thieves devour the cow he left as an offering while he was away, realizing the fire-god could not even protect his own gift, told in connection with a question about whether ascetics gain merit from difficult austerities.
