ウルヴェーラ・カッサパの弟であり、テーバーティカ・ジャティラと呼ばれる三兄弟の苦行者の一人で、ネーランジャラー川岸で三百人の苦行者を率いていたことからその名がついた。

A brother of Uruvela-Kassapa, one of the three Tebhātika Jaṭila ascetic brothers, so named for living at the head of three hundred ascetics on the bank of the Nerañjarā.
