우루웰라 깟사빠의 동생으로, 세 형제 고행자인 테바띠까 자띨라 중 한 명이며, 네란자라 강가에서 삼백 명의 고행자를 이끌었기에 그 이름을 얻었다.

A brother of Uruvela-Kassapa, one of the three Tebhātika Jaṭila ascetic brothers, so named for living at the head of three hundred ascetics on the bank of the Nerañjarā.
