붓다와 비구들이 도리천으로 가는 도중 자신의 거처를 지나쳐 간 것에 분노한 나가 왕으로, 길을 막기 위해 시네루산을 휘감았으나 마하목갈라나에게 신통력으로 제압당하고 붓다의 제자가 되었다

A Nāga king who, angered when the Buddha and his monks passed over his abode on their way to Tāvatiṃsa, coiled around Mount Sineru to block the way, was subdued in a contest of psychic power by Mahā-Moggallāna, and became a follower of the Buddha.
