サーヴァッティー近郊の市場町の長老で、知足と清浄さで知られ、自分の親族の間だけで托鉢していた。これが仏陀に報告されると、仏陀はこれを是認して称賛し、その徳は仏陀自身との交わりによるものだと語った

An elder of a market town near Sāvatthi, reputed for contentment and purity, who went for alms only among his own relatives; when this was reported to the Buddha, he approved and praised him, attributing his virtues to association with the Buddha himself.
