사왓티 근처 시장 마을의 장로로, 만족과 청정함으로 명성이 높았으며 오직 자신의 친족들 사이에서만 탁발했다. 이 사실이 부처님께 전해지자 부처님은 이를 인정하고 칭찬하며, 그의 덕은 부처님 자신과의 교류에서 비롯된 것이라 말씀하셨다

An elder of a market town near Sāvatthi, reputed for contentment and purity, who went for alms only among his own relatives; when this was reported to the Buddha, he approved and praised him, attributing his virtues to association with the Buddha himself.
