พระเถระแห่งตลาดใกล้เมืองสาวัตถี มีชื่อเสียงในความสันโดษและความบริสุทธิ์ ท่านออกบิณฑบาตเฉพาะในหมู่ญาติของตนเท่านั้น เมื่อเรื่องนี้ถูกกราบทูลแด่พระพุทธเจ้า พระองค์ทรงเห็นชอบและตรัสสรรเสริญท่าน โดยตรัสว่าคุณธรรมของท่านเกิดจากการคบหาพระองค์เอง

An elder of a market town near Sāvatthi, reputed for contentment and purity, who went for alms only among his own relatives; when this was reported to the Buddha, he approved and praised him, attributing his virtues to association with the Buddha himself.
