The preceptor of Vaṅgīsa, who together with him dwelt at Aggāḷava-cetiya, attained Arahantship at the foot of a banyan tree, and after his death was declared by the Buddha to have completely passed away, resolving Vaṅgīsa’s doubts about his attainment.
