本名はマハーリーだが、兎唇のためオッタッダと呼ばれたリッチャヴィ族の者で、沙弥シーハの仲介で得られた仏陀との対話は『マハーリ経』に記録されている。

A Licchavī whose personal name was Mahāli but who was known as Oṭṭhaddha for his hare-lip; his conversation with the Buddha, gained through the novice Sīha’s intervention, is recorded in the Mahāli Sutta.
