チューラニー・ブラフマダッタの息子で、マホーサダによってヴィデーハ王のもとへ人質として送られたが弟のように扱われた人物。仏陀と天子パンチャーラチャンダ（1）との対話の由来となった出来事も彼の名にちなんで呼ばれる。

Son of Cūḷani-Brahmadatta, sent by Mahosadha as hostage to King Videha but treated by him like a younger brother; the incident that provided the Buddha’s dialogue with the devaputta Pañcālacaṇḍa (1) is also called after his name.
