  • 안냐따콘단냐, 밧디야, 왑빠, 마하나마, 앗사지로 이루어진 다섯 수행자. 보살과 함께 고행했으나 보살이 고행을 버리자 떠났으며, 후에 이시빠따나에서 초전법륜을 듣고 최초의 제자가 되었다.

  • The group of five ascetics — Aññāta-Koṇḍañña, Bhaddiya, Vappa, Mahānāma, and Assaji — who practised austerities alongside the Bodhisatta, left him when he abandoned that path, but became his first disciples after hearing his first discourse at Isipatana.
