ボーディサッタ（Bodhisatta）が苦行者の師として、四匹の動物の仲間それぞれが執着や慢心から生じた過去の過ちを告白して布薩日を守るというジャータカで、布薩日の遵守を奨励するため五百人の在家信者に説かれ、それらの動物は後にアヌルッダ（Anuruddha）、大迦葉（Mahā-Kassapa）、大目犍連（Mahā-Moggallāna）、舎利弗（Sāriputta）の前世であったと特定された。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta as an ascetic teacher and four animal companions each observe the fast day by confessing a past fault born of attachment or pride, told to five hundred lay disciples to encourage the keeping of fast days, with the animals later identified as former lives of Anuruddha, Mahā-Kassapa, Mahā-Moggallāna, and Sāriputta.
