코삼비에서 강을 따라 떠내려가는 통나무를 보신 부처님이, 좌초하지 않고 가라앉지 않고 썩지 않고 붙잡히지 않은 채 바다까지 흘러가는 통나무에 비구가 열반으로 나아가는 막힘없는 여정을 비유하시는 경으로, 끝에는 소치기 난다가 승단에 들어온다.

A discourse in which the Buddha, seeing a log float down the river at Kosambī, compares a monk’s unhindered progress to nibbāna with a log that avoids grounding, sinking, rotting, or being seized along its way to the ocean, at the end of which the cowherd Nanda joins the Order.
