アーナンダによって出家させられた貧しい青年で、出家生活に何度も揺らぎながらも、そのたびに戒めとして保持していたぼろ布を見て平静を取り戻し、ついに阿羅漢となった。

A poor youth whom Ānanda ordained and who, after repeatedly wavering over monastic life, was steadied each time by the sight of the ragged garment he kept as a reminder, eventually becoming an Arahant.
