아파나의 거사로, 이미 아들들에게 재산을 넘겨주었는데도 부처님이 그저 ‘거사’라고만 부르자 불쾌해했으나, 참된 출리란 그보다 훨씬 깊은 의미임을 알고 재가 신자가 되었다.

A householder of Āpaṇa who, after being addressed simply as ‘householder’ by the Buddha and taking offence at having already renounced his wealth to his sons, learned that true renunciation means far more, and became a follower.

위의 거사 포탈리야와 동일 인물로 추정되는 편력수행자로, 부처님과 나눈 대화 끝에 자신이 재가 신자임을 선언하였다.

A wanderer, probably the same person as the householder Potaliya above, whose conversation with the Buddha ended with him declaring himself a follower.
