菩薩がオウムのポッタパーダとして生まれ、弟ラーダとともにバラモンの主人の不貞な妻を見張るよう命じられ、最後にはそこに留まらず飛び去るという本生話。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, born as the parrot Poṭṭhapāda, and his brother Rādha are set to watch over their brahmin master’s unfaithful wife and eventually fly away rather than continue living there.

菩薩がオウムのラーダとして生まれ、兄ポッタパーダに主人であるバラモンの不貞な妻をたしなめないよう警告するが、それでも兄が忠告してしまい殺されると、同じ運命を分かち合うことなく飛び去るという本生話。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, born as the parrot Rādha, warns his brother Poṭṭhapāda against admonishing their brahmin master’s unfaithful wife, and after Poṭṭhapāda is killed for doing so anyway, flies away rather than share his fate.
