사냥꾼의 덫에 걸린 황금 사슴 왕을 형과 누이가 저버리기를 거부하자, 이 헌신에 감동한 사냥꾼이 그를 풀어 주고, 사슴이 사냥꾼과 왕, 왕비에게 법을 설하는 자타카로, 날뛰는 코끼리로부터 부처님을 지키려 했던 아난다의 시도와 관련하여 설해졌다

A birth-story about a golden deer king, caught in a hunter’s trap, whose brother and sister refuse to abandon him and whose devotion moves the hunter to free him, after which the deer teaches the Dhamma to the hunter, the king, and the queen, told in reference to Ānanda’s attempt to shield the Buddha from a charging elephant.
