သီရိလင်္ကာတွင် ထေရဝါဒ၏ Dhammarucika အခွဲမှ ခွဲထွက်လာသော ဗောဒိသအယူဝါဒတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး နောက်ပိုင်း Mahāsena မင်း တည်ဆောက်ခဲ့သော Jetavana-vihāra တွင် အခြေချခဲ့သည်၊ ၎င်း၏ ထူထောင်သူ Sāgala မထေရ်၏ အမည်ကို ယူ၍ မည်ဆိုကြောင်း ဆိုသည်

A heterodox sect that split off from the Dhammarucika branch of Theravāda in Sri Lanka and later settled at the Jetavana-vihāra built by King Mahāsena, said to be named after its founder, the elder Sāgala.
