သမုဒ္ဒရာကို တူးခဲ့သည်ဟု ဆိုသော ဘုရင်တစ်ပါး၊ သာဂရ (Sāgara) နှင့် တူညီသူဖြစ်ဟန်ရှိသည်။ သူ၏ ဒေါသကြောင့် မြေကြီးကို အလွန်နက်ရှိုင်းစွာ တူးခဲ့ရာ ပင်လယ်ရေကို ဆွဲငင်ခံရသည်အထိဖြစ်ခဲ့ပြီး ထိုအကြောင်းကြောင့် သမုဒ္ဒရာကို သာဂရ (Sāgara) ဟု အမည်တွင်ခဲ့သည်။

A king said to have dug the ocean, evidently the same figure as Sāgara, whose anger led him to excavate the earth so deeply that it came to hold the sea, from which the ocean takes the name Sāgara.
