ชาดกเล่าเรื่องพระราชโอรสองค์เล็กสุดในบรรดาโอรสร้อยองค์ของพระราชา ผู้ได้รับคำแนะนำจากอาจารย์จนได้ใจประชาชน และได้รับแต่งตั้งเป็นกษัตริย์หลังพระบิดาสิ้นพระชนม์ แล้วทรงคลี่คลายความไม่พอใจของเหล่าพี่ชายด้วยการแบ่งมรดกให้ เล่าแก่ภิกษุผู้ละทิ้งการปฏิบัติของตน โดยเจ้าชายถูกระบุว่าคือภิกษุรูปนั้น และพี่ชายองค์หนึ่งคือพระสารีบุตร

A Jātaka about the youngest of a king’s hundred sons who, guided by his teacher’s counsel, wins the people’s affection and is made king after his father’s death, then defuses his elder brothers’ resentment by dividing the inheritance among them, told to a monk who had abandoned his practice, with the prince identified with that monk and one brother with Sāriputta.
