전투의 굉음과 무기에 겁먹은 전투 코끼리를 격려하는 노련한 조련사에 관한 자타카로, 전장을 자기 집처럼 느끼라 독려하니 코끼리가 모든 장애를 뚫고 승리를 거둔다는 이야기이며, 처음에는 약속된 보상만을 위해 계율을 지켰으나 훗날 사리불의 말에 감동하여 완전한 깨달음을 얻은 부처님의 이복동생에 관해 설해졌다.

A Jātaka about a skilled trainer who rallies a battle elephant terrified by the noise and missiles of combat, urging it to feel at home on the battlefield until it breaks through every obstacle to secure victory, told about the Buddha’s half-brother, who kept monastic discipline at first only for a promised reward but was later moved by Sāriputta’s words to attain full awakening.
