ชาดกเล่าถึงผู้ฝึกช้างผู้ชำนาญที่ปลุกใจช้างศึกซึ่งหวาดกลัวเสียงดังและอาวุธในสนามรบ กระตุ้นให้ช้างรู้สึกคุ้นเคยกับสนามรบจนฝ่าฟันอุปสรรคทั้งปวงจนได้รับชัยชนะ เล่าเกี่ยวกับพระอนุชาต่างมารดาของพระพุทธเจ้าที่แรกเริ่มรักษาวินัยสงฆ์เพียงเพื่อรางวัลที่ได้รับสัญญาไว้ แต่ภายหลังได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากถ้อยคำของพระสารีบุตรจนบรรลุการตรัสรู้อย่างสมบูรณ์
