A birth-story about a wealthy, charitable brahmin named Saṅkha who, after honouring a Pacceka Buddha with his shoes and umbrella before a sea voyage, survived a shipwreck through seven days of fasting devotion and was rescued with a treasure-laden ship by the goddess Maṇimekhalā.

A different birth-story sharing the name Saṅkha, about a brahmin father who journeyed to Bārāṇasī in search of his son Susīma, learned the boy had become a Pacceka Buddha and died young, and tended his memorial shrine with such devotion that the Buddha later received extraordinary honours on the same road.
