鹿肉売りを「坊や」「兄さん」「父上」「友よ」とそれぞれ呼んだ商人の息子四人が、次第に良い肉を得ていき、「友よ」と呼んだ者が鹿全体を得たという本生話で、サーリプッタにちなんで語られた。

A birth story of four merchants’ sons who addressed a venison hawker as ‘boy’, ‘brother’, ‘father’, and ‘friend’ respectively, receiving progressively better cuts of meat, with the one who called him ‘friend’ getting the whole deer, told in reference to Sāriputta.
