  • A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, as an imprisoned king of Bārāṇasī, develops such compassion for the enemy who overthrew him that the enemy’s body suffers great pain, leading the Bodhisatta to free him and restore his kingdom.

  • A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, son of a royal chaplain, becomes an ascetic in the Himālayas and, though his boyhood friend the king sends the minister Seyya to fetch him back as chaplain, refuses the honour.
