幽閉されたバーラーナシー王としてのボーディサッタが、自分を打倒した敵に対してあまりに深い慈悲を育んだため、その敵の体が激しい苦痛に苛まれ、ボーディサッタが彼を解放して王国を返還することになったジャータカ。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, as an imprisoned king of Bārāṇasī, develops such compassion for the enemy who overthrew him that the enemy’s body suffers great pain, leading the Bodhisatta to free him and restore his kingdom.

王室祭官の息子であるボーディサッタがヒマラヤで苦行者となり、幼なじみの王が大臣セイヤを遣わして祭官として呼び戻そうとしても、その栄誉を拒むジャータカ。

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, son of a royal chaplain, becomes an ascetic in the Himālayas and, though his boyhood friend the king sends the minister Seyya to fetch him back as chaplain, refuses the honour.
