一則本生故事，講一位女神嚴厲斥責一名苦行者只不過聞了聞並非自己所有的蓮花之香，卻對旁邊正連根拔起蓮株的男子隻字不提，她解釋道對追求清淨者而言，即便微如毫髮的過失也顯得格外刺眼，此事講給一位同樣因在拘薩羅林中嗅聞蓮花而被林神斥責的比丘聽。

A Jātaka in which a goddess sharply rebukes an ascetic for merely smelling a lotus flower not his own while saying nothing to a man nearby uprooting the plants outright, explaining that even the smallest fault appears glaringly dark against the purity to which the ascetic aspires, told about a monk similarly rebuked by a forest deity for smelling a lotus.
