チャンパー（Campā）の裕福で博学なバラモン。友人たちの反対にもかかわらず仏陀を訪ね、彼の名を冠した経の中で教えへの感謝を表しつつ、自らの年長者としての立場に配慮して半信にとどまった。

A wealthy and learned brahmin of Campā who, despite his friends’ objections, visited the Buddha and, in the discourse that bears his name, expressed appreciation for his teaching while maintaining only partial conversion out of deference to his own seniority.
