비말라 장로와 함께 출가한 바라나시의 바라문 학자로, 훗날 마하카사파 밑에서 수행하여 아라한과를 얻었고, 마침내 옛 동료를 훈계하고 교화하러 돌아왔다.

A Brahmin scholar of Bārāṇasī who joined the Order alongside Vimala Thera, later trained under Mahā-Kassapa to attain Arahantship, and eventually returned to admonish and reform his former companion.
