자신을 양육하도록 위임받은 가짜 고행자에게 누명을 쓴 덕망 있는 왕자가, 그자의 탐욕과 숨겨진 재산을 폭로한 뒤 왕위를 버리고 스스로 숲의 고행자가 되는 자타카로, 데바닷따가 부처님의 목숨을 노린 시도와 관련하여 설해졌다

A birth-story about a virtuous prince, falsely accused by a fraudulent ascetic entrusted with his upbringing, who exposes the man’s greed and hidden wealth before renouncing the throne to become a forest ascetic himself, told in reference to Devadatta’s attempt on the Buddha’s life.
