此经为《经集》〈八颂品〉第十四经，是于大集会中所说，阐明比丘为证得解脱应培养的种种德行，被认为特别适合信行人修习。

The fourteenth discourse of the Aṭṭhakavagga of the Suttanipāta, taught at the Mahāsamaya assembly, dealing with the qualities a monk should cultivate to attain liberation and considered especially suited to those of a faithful temperament.
