パドゥムッタラ仏の子である沙弥で、その偉大な神通力がナーガ王サンカ（ラーフラの前世）を深く感銘させ、自らも仏陀の子となることを志望させた人物。

A novice, son of Padumuttara Buddha, whose great psychic powers so impressed the Nāga-king Saṅkha (a former birth of Rāhula) that it made him aspire to become a Buddha’s son himself.

叔父の最後の帰郷の旅に際し、到着を母に知らせ五百人の従者のための宿を準備するため先発させられたサーリプッタの甥。

A nephew of Sāriputta who, on his uncle’s final journey home to die, was sent ahead to announce his arrival to his mother and prepare lodging for his five hundred followers.
