천민에게 한 번도 밟힌 적 없는 곳에서만 자신을 화장하라고 아들에게 지시하는 바라문에 관한 자타카로, 아들과 함께 그런 곳을 찾던 중 바로 이 자리가 이미 자신의 화장을 만사천 번이나 겪었다고 밝히는 성스러운 고행자를 만나, 그 깨우침으로 죽음을 넘어서는 길을 가르친다는 이야기이며, 숲에 사는 사미승에게 부처님이 설하셨다.

A Jātaka about a brahmin who instructs his son to cremate him only at a spot untouched by outcasts, and who, while searching for such a place with his son, encounters a holy ascetic who reveals that this very spot has already seen his cremation fourteen thousand times before, using the revelation to teach the path beyond death, told by the Buddha to a forest-dwelling novice.
