菩薩が苦行者として、恐れおののくナーガと追跡するガルダに慈悲の教えを説いて和解させるジャータカで、後に仏陀が仲裁した口論の絶えない二人の兵士に関連して説かれた

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta, as an ascetic, reconciles a terrified nāga and a pursuing garuḷa by teaching them loving-kindness, told in reference to two quarrelsome soldiers later reconciled by the Buddha.

死の必然性を長く観じてきた菩薩のバラモン一家が、息子が蛇に噛まれて死んだ時にも悲嘆を見せなかったジャータカで、この平静さに深く感銘した帝釈天が彼らに財宝を授けた

A Jātaka in which the Bodhisatta’s brahmin family, having long contemplated the inevitability of death, show no grief when a son dies of snakebite, their equanimity so impressing Sakka that he rewards them with treasure.
