ウルヴェーラーに住む三兄弟のテーバーティカ・ジャティラー苦行者のうち最年長で、五百人の弟子を率いていたが、仏陀が彼の拝火用の蛇を制圧し数々の奇跡を示した後、仏陀の教えに帰依した。

The eldest of the three Tebhātika-Jaṭilā ascetic brothers living at Uruvelā, who led five hundred disciples and was converted to the Buddha’s teaching after the Buddha overcame his fire-worshipping serpent and performed numerous miracles.
