늪지에 사는 까마귀, 곧 보살의 하인 까마귀가 자기 역할을 저버리고 스스로 물고기를 잡으려다 익사하는 자타카로, 데바닷따가 부처님을 흉내 내려던 시도와 관련해 설해졌으며, 데바닷따는 그 익사한 까마귀에 대응된다.

A Jātaka about a marsh crow, the Bodhisatta, whose servant crow drowns after abandoning his role and trying to catch fish himself, told in reference to Devadatta’s attempt to imitate the Buddha, with Devadatta identified as the drowned crow.
