Son of an eminent brahmin of Sāvatthi who, guided by good friends, met the Buddha, joined the Order, and soon attained Arahantship, having in a past life built a reed hut for the Pacceka Buddha Nārada.

베살리의 바라문 가문에서 간디밋타로 태어나 마하깟짜야나 아래서 승단에 들어갔고, 지지대가 필요한 덩굴처럼 남에게 의지한다고 하여 별명을 얻었으나, 후에 웨누닷타 장로의 조언으로 통찰지를 계발했다

Born Gandimitta to a brahmin family of Vesāli, he joined the Order under Mahā-Kaccāyana and, being nicknamed for his dependence on others like a creeper needing support, later developed insight on the advice of Venudatta Thera.
