竹林精舎で仏陀を訪れ、苦行を非難する偈と称賛する偈という互いに矛盾する二つの偈を唱えた天神。後者はマーラに触発されたものと伝えられる。

A deity who visited the Buddha at the Bamboo Grove and uttered two contradictory verses, one condemning and one praising asceticism, the latter said to have been inspired by Māra.
